Emergency Contact Reference

Emergency numbers are not universal

The number changes by country

911 only works in the US and Canada. The UK uses 999. Most of Europe uses 112. Japan uses 119 for ambulance and 110 for police. Australia uses 000. Knowing the number before you need it is not optional for travelers managing medical conditions.

Your Embassy is not just for lost passports

US Embassies and Consulates maintain lists of local doctors, hospitals and legal resources. In a serious medical event abroad, the Embassy duty officer can help coordinate care and contact family. Save the number before you land, not after.

Medical evacuation is a separate consideration

Local emergency services handle acute care. Getting you home for ongoing treatment is a different system entirely. MedJet and Global Rescue are the two primary medical evacuation memberships worth knowing about before any international trip.

For facility research, use HealthEndex

This tool gives you the numbers to call in a crisis. HealthEndex gives you the pre-trip research: English-speaking hospitals, clinics near cruise ports, dialysis centers and pharmacy access by destination. Both belong in your travel prep.

Frequently asked

Is this tool free?

Yes. A free TravEndex account is required. No credit card, no subscription.

What countries and destinations does this cover?

Any country, major city or cruise destination worldwide. For smaller or remote destinations, some numbers may require local verification before travel.

Are the numbers verified?

Numbers are sourced from government and official resources. Emergency contact information can change. TravEndex recommends cross-referencing critical numbers with your destination country's official government site or the US State Department travel portal at travel.state.gov before departure.

What is the difference between this tool and HealthEndex?

This tool is for crisis moments: the numbers you call when something goes wrong. HealthEndex is for pre-trip research: finding English-speaking hospitals, dialysis centers, pharmacies and specialist facilities near your destination before you leave home. They are complementary, not the same thing.

Can I print or save my results?
