Shore excursions are the most researched and least documented part of accessible cruising. ExcursEndex indexes every major excursion for terrain type, walking distances, physical demand levels, wheelchair access, mobility scooter availability and seating throughout.
The data they never published.
Every excursion lists the dominant surface type and any transitions. Cobblestone, sand, paved, grass, gravel, uneven stone and water transport are all categorized.
We record total walking distance in meters and miles, maximum continuous walking stretches between rest stops and distance from the dock to the first stopping point.
Light: suitable for most mobility levels with limited walking and minimal incline. Moderate: involves sustained walking or uneven terrain. Strenuous: significant walking, incline or standing required.
Wheelchair accessible does not mean the same thing on every excursion. We note whether manual and power wheelchairs can complete the full tour, partial access points and where assistance is required.
Number of seated rest opportunities along the route, shaded seating availability and whether the excursion pace allows for personal pacing.
Whether guides are trained in accessibility assistance, whether the operator offers accessible-specific tour variations and cancellation policies for mobility or health-related issues.
